Dhoom 2 is an Indian action thriller film, written and directed by Vijay Krishna Acharya. Dhoom 2 is the sequel to the 2006 film Dhoom which was released on 8 October 2009. It stars Hrithik Roshan, Katrina Kaif, Uday Chopra in lead roles. The film follows the journey of young Indian professionals who are kidnapped in order to be trained for a heist staged in India by their wealthy grandfather in Saudi Arabia. The movie went on theatrical release on 20 October 2010 in United Arab Emirates following its success at the box office. The film was a critical and commercial success, becoming the second highest grossing Bollywood movie worldwide after "". The movie had an opening of ₹31.45 crore and went on to gross ₹88.10 crore at the Box Office India.[3] In 2011 two action-thriller films were announced with a release date of 30 June 2012 in India, directed by Rohit Shetty and written by Salim Khan. In early 2012, these films were announced to be "Son of Dhoom" with Salman Khan, directed by Rohit Shetty and written by Salim Khan.[4] In late 2012 it was announced that Khan will be replaced by Abhishek Bachchan. At an event earlier in the month, Salman Khan announced that he would be stepping down as its producer. Subsequently, the film was rescheduled to 18 October 2012. The next film to be announced was "2.0" by Aseem Arora, Vijay Krishna Acharya and Gajraj Rao. The film will be produced by Salman Khan and has been stated that it will be released on 24 May 2013. The film was said to be titled "2.0". This announcement came after the announcement of the same for Salman Khan's film, Son Of Dhammar . However, later in 2013 it was announced that the film was scrapped. On 10 January 2014, it was confirmed that Ritesh Sidhwani had formed a production house named JSW Cinema to produce films with Salman Khan, Farhan Akhtar and Rohit Shetty.[5] However, on 20 February 2014 it was reported that JSW had withdrawn from producing films with Khan.[6] Although no reason has been provided for this decision. However reports have suggested business issues are at the root of the decision. Later on 12 June 2015, exclusively to News18.com, Khan announced his next film would be "Sultan" starring Shah Rukh Khan. In October 2014, a press release revealed that a third Dhoom film was in development with Khan and Shetty.[7][8] However it was also rumoured that the two stars had fallen out. In December 2015, producer Ritesh Sidhwani confirmed to Mumbai Mirror that the film would start shooting mid-2016 with grittier action sequences to mark a departure from its previous outings.
